Fifth Wish
Shooting Stars

A girl of porcelain and mauve glass strung together by
Flaxen hair and ivory bone she is
Searching for her prince, the fair eyed boy who
Courts her dreams every night without fail.
Eyes glued to the floor she walks forth
With Heart and Courage into the Milky Way

Stars turn and gaze upon the ball’s Cinderella the
Fairy tale princess in search of her lover, no one
Interferes as she parts the crowd of galaxies and soon
Prince Charming is there before her clear eyes and smile
Embodies her wishes, hopes, future
Onlookers blink out of existence, embarrassed youth

Jointed hands intertwine carefully thinking
What will come next, hearts pounding in
Unison separation anxiety fear, they are
In love as she accepts his offer at midnight they
Begin their Rondo Duet, Waltz for Two.
Music ceases but they continue to spin and twirl

Down the starlit strip they tango across the asteroid belt
No world, simply the universe and themselves there is
Little need for anything else when your head is up
In the Heavens, feet tiptoeing through sleeping clusters of
Morning light that trickles in unwanted the duo
Know their time is up date finished and through.

She shakes her head refusal there is another way but
He insists it isn’t the end do not fear, believe
These words are my vows I will return for you, promise
Me that you will wait. Her eyes wavered lacked
Confidence but his proposal accepted and the
Lovers parted ways.

On every Shooting Star she bids good day and asks
If they’ve seen her prince and they apologize but
Will give him her regards and so she thanks
Their efforts and kind words, though it is known that
He will not return she waits practicing her Waltz
Down the Milky Way waiting for her wedding.
